January 26th, 2011

Are you an aspiring musician or a student just learning to play the drums? If this is the case, then you are well aware of the problems brought about by playing the drums. First of all, the neighbors always complain about the noise. Secondly, drum sets can prove to be bulky, if the living area is confined in a small place. Thirdly, in the absence of other band members, it will be impossible to play other instruments or effects. Fourth, drum sets can be time consuming to assemble and hard confusing to assemble. Lastly, drums sets can be hard to use, if you are still in the process of learning. Fortunately, there is a solution to these problems. The solution lies in electric drum kits.

Electric drum kits will definitely eliminate the problems mentioned above. The kits can be played without the hassle of loud noise, thanks to being able to play the set and have the sound come out through headsets. In addition, the volume can be controlled. The kits are compact enough to fit in a confined space, which is ideal for apartment type dwellings. You can practice playing the drums without other band members, due to the ability of the sets to play other effects, recordings, and instruments. In other words, the kits may be used by almost anybody.

Whether you are a novice player or an accomplished musician, the kits will make playing the drums a more pleasurable experience. No matter where the venue is, or where you choose to play, electric drum kits are truly drum sets without all the hassle.

Purchasing a Beginner Drum Set

January 24th, 2011

Why should one buy a beginner drum set?

If your kid wants to start drumming, you may consider buying a beginner drum set. A junior drum set is not a toy. It is a proper set that enables the young learner to enjoy drumming lessons and ensures a smooth transition to a full size drum set once the drummer is old enough to do so. One of the key aspects of drumming is coordination. It is easier to achieve hand and feet coordination if one starts learning on a proper drum set.

Things to remember while buying a set

All drum sets have a snare drum, a bass drum and tom-tom drums. The number of tom-tom drums varies from set to set and the customer decides how many drums he wants. A complete drum kit also contains drum sticks, a bass pedal, the drum key, and the drumming seat. The seat is generally referred to as the throne. Some buyers pay more attention to the drums than the seat. It is important to choose a throne that has the right height because poor playing positions may lead to back injuries.

Which is the right size?

The best way to figure out which drum kit will suit the learner is to make him or her sit in playing position and see if he or she can comfortably reach all parts of the drum. The feet should reach the kick drum and the hit-hat pedals. The snare drum should be at the height of the waist. The rack and toms should be reachable with the drumsticks.

If it is not possible to sit on a drum before choosing it, the diameter of the bass drum may be used to work out the size of the set. Generally, sets in which the diameter of the bass drum is between 12″-14” is suitable for children of three to seven years. Children between eight and twelve need sets that have 16” bass drums.

The stands and mounting system

Buyers should properly inspect the stands and the tom mounting system of the set. The stands should be able to withstand the impact when the player uses it. It is advisable to test the strength of the stands by assembling the drum set in the shop and using it before purchasing it.

Buyers need to keep these things in mind to so that they do not end up buying the wrong beginner set.

Shopping For a New Drum Set

January 18th, 2011

If you’re looking to get into the world of drumming and you want to purchase your own drum set, it’s a good idea to look for sales on the internet. Some of the best deals on drum sets are only available online and can’t be found in stores. You also have the advantage of choosing from many different brands when shopping for a drum set online.

While there are many brands of acoustic drum sets on the market, you might guess that they’re not all equal in sound quality and construction. It’s best to do some research of your own regarding the different brands before you make a purchase.

There are a ton of websites that offer good deals on drum sets. Unlike a retail store, online drum stores don’t have to maintain inventory, hire employees, or rent a storefront. This allows them to offer drum sets at a greatly reduced price than those of the retail stores.

Despite the fact that online stores usually have the best deals, it’s still worth looking through music-related magazines and on bulletin boards to find out if any local stores are offering deals on drum sets.

With a little luck, you could find the drum set of your dreams in a store, and for an unbelievable price. Before buying any drum set, make sure that it includes all the necessary components, including all the drum varieties and some sticks.

If you’re already a musician, and especially if you’re a drummer, you’ll likely be familiar with the various brands and manufacturers as well as their reputations regarding build quality. If you’re new to drumming, however, it will be like a foreign language.

For those new to drumming, remember that some of the most-respected brands include Pearl, Tama, Yamaha, Ludwig, Gretch, and DW. These brands are quite common at the bigger retail outlets.

Each of these brands has its own positives and drawbacks when it comes to factors such as acoustics, wood quality, and construction quality of the set.

However, all of the aforementioned brands have good reputations as far as quality goes, and buying a set from one of them will always provide you with a reliable set that’s worth the money.
